Another tip is to put as many melee units in a short space as possible, put them in defensive formation and take whatever your opponent can throw at you. Regnier's first mission in Crusaders is impossible if you don't take him out of combat to cast Enrage and then return. This is usually neglected when the hero is protecting an archer unit from an onslaught or something similar. A fatal mistake many players make is refusing to withdraw their main troop from a battle to heal. Even a slow unit, like a catapult, has the opportunity to withdraw. Just because your unit enters melee does not mean it has to stay there and hope for help. Don't forget to keep playing during the battle. For example, a player who has an "Archer 56" might trick the AI or another human player by only placing one point into ranged and 55 into melee, allowing the unit to utterly obliterate that level 20 infantry unit. An advanced player can trick the AI by dumping points into skills in a counter-intuitive way. For example, a unit called, "Archer 56" probably has about 40 points in Range and 16 in Melee, making them a target for infantry units as low as level 20. You can use the titles of your units to deceive your opponents. You not only want to arrange the battle a certain way, but both advanced AI and human players will be setting up the battle in their favor, as well. You will have to move your units around to place them in battles that they can win. Friendly Scorpion + Enemy Mortars (R) = Enemy Mortars. Friendly Scorpion + Enemy Mortars (M) = Friendly Scorpion. For example… Friendly Scorpion + Enemy Infantry = Friendly Scorpion. Let (M) stand for melee and (R) stand for ranged. Do the math in your head in order to cancel out units or subtract units. Once you understand rock-paper-scissors, you understand what the vulnerabilities of your units are. MANIPULATION AND DECEPTION This covers the broad spectrum of basic and advanced battle tactics. This ties in with manipulation, but in order to manipulate you have to understand rock-paper-scissors. This may call for you to withdraw your units away from safe ground temporarily. Don't bait mortars when you have a scorpion if you can't for sure put them into melee before they can fire a couple of times. This will also dictate who you fight or bait and in what order. For example, if you got surrounded by enemies and one of your units is a scorpion, you would have to either destroy or put enemy mortars, catapults etc. UNDERSTAND ROCK-PAPER-SCISSORS You have to understand what every single unit excels at and is weak against in order to set up your fights when isolation becomes impossible. During online play, this may be especially difficult since a player will always reinforce his own units or simply withdraw. My favorite way to do this is to send scouts or cavalry to find out where enemies are stationed and then bait the faster ones into your safe ground, leaving the slower units to get lost. As a hunter, you have to make your prey come to you, or else you might enter a fight you cannot win or escape from, which is often the case in the previous games, where enemies travel in packs. This means that while a 1v1 fight might be level 1 difficulty, a 1v2 fight is not a level 2 difficulty, but a level 4 difficulty. ISOLATE YOUR ENEMIES Here, you find that fighting many opponents at once becomes exponentially difficult, while the number of enemies only increases linearly. We'll talk about what that means a little bit later on. Safe ground is helpful because it allows you to manipulate and take control. If you place, say, a scorpion up front and your enemy goes Hail Mary with mortars, you may find yourself in a pickle. Set up your troops in a logical arrangement, with your ranged units and slow units farther away and your faster ones up front. This is not always true and you may have to dig for safe ground once in a while. On many missions and on online play, players will most likely begin at least somewhat distanced from the enemy. Make enemies fight on your turf, where you have control. ESTABLISH SAFE GROUND First and foremost, winning any given battle becomes incredibly more difficult if fought on an enemy's turf. So below I've broken down some major tactics into categories for you to look at. After all, nobody plays Crusaders online anymore, so don't miss your chance with KUF 2 and save offline modes for a rainy day. Before I get started, however, I'd like to encourage people to play online multiplayer before settling down to do the campaigns. So, I've comprised a list of a couple of tactics that should help you through the game, both online and offline. By Spranklz We're all aware by now that Kingdom Under Fire 2 is set to be released in the fourth quarter of 2010, and if you're like me, you're probably a little out of practice.
